Cerebral Palsy Panel

The Cerebral Palsy Panel analyzes a broad panel of genes to determine the underlying etiology of cerebral palsy (CP), which is a heterogeneous group of neurodevelopmental conditions characterized by abnormal movements and fluctuating patterns of muscle tone and posture. The genetic heterogeneity associated with these conditions can make it difficult to use phenotype as the sole criterion to select a definitive cause. Broad panel testing allows for an efficient evaluation of several potential genes based on a single clinical indication. Genetic testing of these genes may confirm a diagnosis and help guide treatment and management decisions. This panel also includes genes associated with adult-onset neurologic conditions, including HSPs, SCAs, and ALS, as well as the ATM gene for Ataxia-telangiectasia that confers an increased risk for malignancy, particularly leukemia and lymphoma.
